Blog #4: The first product

The first product of Mauties Mama
After making a successful skirt it was time for another product. I wanted to try something new. Moeke had made such beautiful harem pants for Maud and our nephew Stan. "It's really not difficult!" she had emphasized, "if I can do it, you can too!". So with her explanation I got to work and there was the very first pair of pants from Mauties Mama. Stitched with an overlock stitch (from the sewing machine) after which the edges had been neatly cut off, "it looks just like the real thing" I shouted through the room (see left photo for the very first pair of pants for Maud). The result was impressive and I was certainly very proud. I sold the first pair of pants for €5,- so that I could still cover the costs, because yes, tricot cotton is certainly not cheap. I couldn't ask for too much money either, because I couldn't yet deliver a certain standard that could really match a store product. After all, I was a beginner and that's what you pay for. Very dear friends and family supported my growth and bought pants after pants (see the right photo for some nice pants I made). In no time I was just busy. Who would have thought, haha (not me!). There I was sitting at the kitchen table every day, because I did it as a hobby after all. And after sewing everything had to be put away, because of course we had to eat there too. Oh dear, what a lot of work dragging and lugging, but what a wonderful distraction I had between therapy sessions. (because yes, I was still at home with PTSD)

I always bought 1 to 2 meters of fabric and made pants from it on request. If a fabric ran out and was no longer available, that was a shame, but alas. Sometimes a fabric kept coming back, such as the "Lion Glamour" fabric that has been in our range for some time. Eventually I ended up with bulks of fabric and leftovers that I got so tired of looking at. That's why I started making panties in stock at some point and selling them on ETSY, or at the King's Market, because then it was just gone.

Thank you very much for reading my blog!

Love,

Danielle
